About Me

Sarah Ryals is a photographer from Colorado Springs where she lives with her husband and two talented cats.

I’m a Pennsylvania native but relocated with my family as a teen to Dubuque, Iowa. I have a business degree from Drake University and spent my career in consumer marketing. A job opportunity brought me to Colorado in 2000. Semi-retired now, I continue to do freelance marketing for local clients. Somewhere along the way, I was a single mom for about 15 years until I remarried and filled my empty nest with three more step-kiddos.

I dabbled in photography in my younger years but returned to a more serious practice in 2016. Since then, my award-winning work has been exhibited up and down the Front Range, from the shadows of the Spanish Peaks to the Santa Fe Arts District in Denver.

My love of Colorado wildflowers and their conservation led me to pursue CSU certification as a Colorado Native Plants Master, which I was awarded in 2024.

Many thanks to Bob — my loving companion, driver, protector, and the guy who pulls me back up to standing when I get stuck in a crouched position.

Much gratitude as well for my friend, Anne. This web site exists because of her.

Finally, profound gratitude to the great photographers who lift me up, challenge me, and motivate my desire to do more and do better.

All this to say … it truly does take a village, even when you’re no longer a child.
